NTGPE is the regional general practice training provider in the NT, coordinating registrar placements in urban, rural and remote locations from the Top End to the Centre.

NTGPE aims to train general practitioners who are competent to practice anywhere in Australia without supervision, and are able to provide high quality primary health care services relevant to individual and community health needs. Registrars who complete the program successfully are trained to:

• Provide primary, continuing, comprehensive, whole patient     care to individuals, families and the community
• Behave in a professional, responsible and ethical manner
• Provide high quality and efficient services
• Identify and meet the health needs of special groups in the community
• Understand the need for general practitioners to be distributed according to needs, and
• Be accessible and integrated into the health care system

We offer highly supported, flexible and challenging training opportunities for GP registrars keen to experience something a little different to what is available down south.

In particular, the NT provides excellent opportunities for training in Aboriginal Health and understanding the complexities and interaction of individual care with a population health approach. NTGPE supports around 50 GP Registrars   annually in their training towards fellowship of the RACGP. Registrars work in a variety of locations, ranging from urban mainstream general practices to remote Aboriginal community clinics. They are comprehensively supported by a network of experienced GP Trainers who provide practice based teaching, mentoring and professional development. We also manage the Prevocational General Practice Placement Program,  a program of placements for Junior Doctors into remote NT communities.

NTGPE supports  training with a diverse and enthusiastic group of staff across a wide variety of locations, including administrative staff, cultural and medical educators, IT support and research advisors.
The Medical Educator Network:
Our Dispersed Medical Educator Network has been created to develop a higher level of authenticity in medical students and GP training than previously existed. It uses a new approach to constructing and operating the medical educator team within a Regional Training Provider and differs noticeably from those using regional nodes. more info >>
