Hospital placements in the Northern Territory are varied, ranging from the 300 bed Royal Darwin Hospital in the Top End to the smaller District Hospitals located in the major regional centre's of Alice Springs, Katherine Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy.

Royal Darwin Hospital is the main specialist teaching hospital in the Northern Territory and provides extensive inpatient, outpatient and casualty treatment to the people of Darwin and consultative medical services to the "Top End" of the Territory.

The Menzies School of Health Research is located on the hospital campus and its research facilities are adjacent to the hospital pathology laboratory. Liaison between the two establishments is actively encouraged.

Royal Darwin Hospital is an accredited teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and Flinders University

Accredited disciplines: Accident and Emergency, Anaesthetics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, Paediatric Medicine, Psychiatry, Respiratory Medicine, Sexual Health.

The Territory's regional hospitals offer hospital - based training terms for General Practice Registrars. In some instances General Practice Registrars can do composite posts between a regional hospital and a General Practice or Aboriginal Medical Service which is accredited for GP training.
