Description:
|
Royal Darwin Hospital is the main
specialist teaching hospital in the Northern Territory and provides
extensive inpatient, outpatient and casualty treatment to the people
of Darwin and consultative medical services to the "Top End"
of the Territory |
The Royal Darwin Hospital has
311 authorized beds and provides general, medical and allied health
professional services. The hospital also offers specialist medical
services such as intensive care, neonatal intensive care, renal
support, oral maxillo - facial services, plastic reconstructive
surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat services.
In addition, further services are available from consultants who
travel from interstate on a regular basis. These services are cardiology,

The Menzies School of Health Research
is located on the hospital campus and its research facilities are
adjacent to the hospital pathology laboratory. Liaison between the
two establishments is actively encouraged |
Royal Darwin Hospital is classified
as a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and will soon
have a Clinical Medical School as part of Flinders University. RMO
I and II rotations may include combinations from A&E, medicine,
surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology,
anaesthetics/ICU, psychiatry and accredited GP terms. Diploma of
Obstetrics positions are only available for RMO IIs but three month
non-Diploma O&G jobs can be taken by 1st year RMOs. Advanced
skills posts in Surgery and in Obstetrics can be undertaken. It
must be stressed that the role of an RMO in Darwin is much more
responsible than in the Tertiary centers in the south and ideal
training for future competent GP's.
