GP Trainers

Overview

NTGPE works with accredited, experienced GP Trainers in placement posts offered to GP registrars. The GP Trainers who support the training program are based in urban and rural mainstream general practices, regional hospitals, Aboriginal Medical Services and Community Controlled Health Services throughout the Northern Territory.

To support GP Trainers, NTGPE host conferences twice annualy in Darwin and Alice Springs and ensures those new to supervision are provided with appropriate up skilling on adult learning techniques, the NTGPE Trainers Handbook, as well as the teaching guidelines from AGPT and the RACGP. Their Liaison Officer, Dr Nigel Gray, represents the GP Trainers on the NTGPE Board.

New trainers are provided with a face-to-face orientation to supervision and registrar training by the Trainer Liasion Officer introducing, Learning Tools, required standards and other resources to assist supervision.
