Overview
The Pre-Vocational GP Placement Program (PGPPP) is designed for junior, hospital based doctors (PGY2 & above for rural /remote and Interns and above for Urban/outer metro areas) and will provide them with the opportunity to gain exposure to general practice/primary health care around the Northern Territory. Each placement will be up to 13 weeks in a general practice or Aboriginal Health Service.
There will be three days of orientation before placement providing high quality training in procedural and other practice skills in a wide range and depth of clinical situations. The general practice/remote experience will further enhance learning when the doctor returns to the parent hospital.
Aims of the Program:
- To increase the number of PGY 2-3 doctors participating in a term of rural general practice/rural community experience.
- To provide a quality clinical and social learning experience in a setting other than a major teaching or provincial hospital.
- To provide the experience and to encourage RMOs to choose General Practice as a specialty.
