Courses
Current AGPT guidelines state that GP Registrars must undertake an approved Advanced Life Support (ALS) course during the AGPT program. Where possible, NTGPE recommends that training in the early management of trauma and advanced life support should be undertaken prior to commencing GP terms. However, if a formal course has not been undertaken, this will not exclude a GP Registrar from commencing GP terms but the GP Registrar must complete an approved ALS course during their training.
The following courses are approved:
- Early Management of Severe Trauma Course (EMST)
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support Course (APLS): Advanced Life Support Group.
- Rural Emergency Skills Training (REST)
There may be other courses that meet the requirement. If participants/GPRs are interested in undertaking a course that they believe meets the requirement, forward course details to NTGPE for consideration. Participants/GPRs will need to show that the course meets the demonstrated skills required of ALS training and that participants/GPRs will be individually assessed. A certificate proving attendance only is insuffecient to meet the ALS requirement. Participants/GPRs will need to provide evidence of this assessment when the course is completed.
