Overview
Maningrida Health Centre is a large and well equipped centre, which provides health services to the community of Maningrida and outstations. The clinic is run by two (2) GPs, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and an Administrative Support Team.
The health centre provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week acute/emergency response through health staff on call and primary health care to the community: Antenatal Care, Growth Assessment Assessment and Action (GAA) program for infants and children under 5, Childhood and Adult Immunisation, Healthy School Aged Kids Program, Preventable Chronic Disease (PCD) program, Well Women's and Well Men's Screening, Infectious and Communicable Disease Prevention and Control. Emergency evacuations can be made to Darwin via Care Flight.

Maningrida
Overview
Location: Maningrida is approximately 500kms east of Darwin in Arnhem Land, at the mouth of the Liverpool River. It is also located approximately 300kms north of Jabiru.
Population: An estimated 3000 people populate Maningrida, including individuals who live on the 30 or so homeland centres or outstations around Maningrida.
Languages: The Kunibidji people are the traditional landowners of this country. The Kunibidji language is called Ndjebbana. The other main tribal groups who live in the area are Kunbarlang, Nakkara, Burarra, Gun-nartpa, Gurrgoni, Rembarrnga, Eastern Kunwinjku, Djinang, Wurlaki and Gupapuyngu. Over 50 Indigenous languages are spoken in this region. English is also spoken.
Permits: Permits are required to work and live at Mningrida. Maningrida is a dry community and a drinking permit can be obtained after living in Maningrida for a year.

Access
Road: Travel by road is possible in the Dry Season from April to November.
Air: There is all year access via air with daily flights in and out of Maningrida. Airnorth flys between Darwin and Maningrida seven (7) days per week.
Seasonal: Travel by road is possible in the Dry Season (April to November), but during the Wet Season it is generally impassable as the river floods and cuts the community off from the mainland.
Facilities
Maningrida is a major town and has service stations, a convenience store, cafe, arts centre and a school.
Additional information
History: Maningrida was permanently settled in 1940 originally as a trading post with Aboriginals in the area and by 1950 was formed into a mission. According to the Northern Territory Place Names Committee Maningrida means ‘the place where the Dreaming changed shape’.
Climate: Maningrida has a very humid tropical climate, with 80% of the annual rainfall occurring in the Wet Season between December and March.
