International Medical graduates

Aims

  • To provide IMGs in the NT a structured, clinically relevant and exam focused clinical course
  • To support IMGs to be clinically effective
  • To enable IMGs to self-evaluate their clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes as they affect professional behaviours within the Australian Health system

At the end of the course IMG participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the Australian cultural dimensions and how they translate into ethical standards and medicolegal expectations in the clinical settings
  • Demonstrate communication strategies with patients, their families and other health professionals
  • List the phases of the clinical consultation and steps involved in the clinical phases
  • List common illnesses and disease processes in the Australian community as they present to hospital and general practice
  • Discuss the indications for, the mechanisms and action of and the adverse affects of major therapeutics agents
  • Demonstrate safe clinical practice
  • Demonstrate patient centredness in the medical consultation

The workshop program is not funded by any governing body and costs are charged back to the participant on a cost recovery basis.

The workshop runs for a period of six days usually over three weekends or a similar combination.

Workshops are advertised through Northern Territory hospitals, General Practice Primary Health Care NT, Divisions of General Practice newsletters and on the NTGPE Website.
