Accommodation: |
All Top End placements begin and
end in Darwin. Accommodation in Darwin will be organised by NTGPE
for one night before and after the placement dates. |
Whilst in transit, students may
be accommodated at either the student accommodation at the Royal
Darwin Hospital campus or the Charles Darwin University (formerly
NT University) campus, depending on availability of rooms. |
Placements at Bagot Community
Health Centre and Danila Dilba will stay at either of these residences,
for the duration of the placement.

Royal Darwin Hospital
Student Accommodation: |
At Royal Darwin Hospital, the
student accommodation is located on the second floor, East wing
of Building 4. Each room is air-conditioned and has a bed, wardrobe,
bench, washbasin and chair. You are provided with two blankets as
well as two sheets, one pillowcase and two towels. The rooms can
get cold so you may want to bring warm clothes to sleep in. Additional
blankets can be provided if required. |
Each student has a private room
but will share the kitchen, lounge and bathroom facilities. |
The communal kitchen/cooking area
contains a refrigerator, stove and microwave. A small supply of
kitchenware is also provided. A dining/common room with television/video
is located adjacent to the kitchen. During your stay you are responsible
for maintaining the cleanliness of shared kitchen facilities. Cleaning
agents are provided. |
A laundry facility with washing
machines, dryers and irons is provided. You must provide your own
washing powder.
|
|
You will need to provide your
own meals. There is no hospital cafeteria at Royal Darwin Hospital,
but there is a kiosk. A bistro is located at the Darwin Private
Hospital, located within the Royal Darwin Hospital grounds, which
provides meals all day. |
This accommodation is only a suburb
away from the NTGPE office. There is a bus service which travels
from the RDH and past the Charles Darwin University campus, where
the NTGPE office is located. Casuarina Shopping Centre is adjacent
to the main Casuarina Bus Interchange.
|
| Charles Darwin University Student Accommodation: |
North Flinders International House
provides accommodation to many international and Australian students
at Charles Darwin University (formerly NT University). The NTGPE
office is located right across the road, at Level 3 of Building
39. |
There are 270 rooms in a number
of multi-level wings. There are share kitchens and communal bathrooms.
There is also a computer room and a pool. The Common Room has a
large TV/VCR and a pool table. Each wing has a communal phone as
well as a Telstra public phone nearby. |
Each student room will consist
of a single bed, desk, chair and small fridge. Bed linen and towels
are provided, but you will need to provide your own meals. The communal
kitchen has a stove, microwave and freezer. You can hire a ‘Kitchen
Kit’ which has basic eating and cooking utensils, including
a frying pan & saucepan. This costs $5.50 to hire with a $30
refundable deposit. |
There are two main food outlets
on campus - The Campus Café and the Shed Café,
which are usually open until 7.00pm on most weeknights (except in
semester breaks). Also, the Casuarina Shopping Centre is about a
10 minute walk away, where Woolworth's and Coles are open until
quite late at night. But please do not walk around this area by
yourself at night. |
