Top End RUSC Placement Accommodation:
The types, costs and facilities differ between the various housing provided for students in each placement location. Students will not be required to pay rent.

Nguiu, Borroloola, Maningrida, Gapuwiyak, Gunbalanya, Galiwin’ku, Wadeye or Lajamanu
Student ‘Blue Houses’ were installed in these communities as part of a Commonwealth Government funded project (Department of Health and Ageing) with the main purpose being to house medical students during their placement. Each Blue House is an air-conditioned, self-contained transportable home with one bedroom, kitchen, lounge, bathroom and verandah.
Each ‘Blue House’ should contain the following:
• television • video player
• small stove • microwave
• fridge/freezer • electric frypan
• toaster • electric kettle
• cooking utensils • crockery
• cutlery • saucepans & frypan
• bed linen
• towels (take an extra towel in case you have the opportunity to go swimming)
• front-loading washing-machine (take special washing powder for front-loaders as this may be difficult to buy at the community store)
• phone (take some Telstra PhoneAway pre-paid phone cards with you to make outgoing calls)

Student Accommodation - Borroloola

There is a phone in each of the student ‘Blue Houses’. You can make local calls but you should purchase some Telstra PhoneAway pre-paid phone cards if you wish to make interstate calls. If you have a laptop computer Internet access is available however you will require a current account with a Internet Service Provider that grants access via a local dial up number. Check with us to confirm.
You are required to pay $100 accommodation bond at orientation, which will be returned to you if you have left the student house clean and intact as requested. If you use the last of the cleaning products or toilet paper please replace it.
Some locations require special Power Cards to enable electricity to the accommodation. One $10 Power Card will be given to you at the Orientation Session, but you will need to buy further cards in the community. One $20 Power Card will last approximately 10 to 14 days at normal power consumption rates. Please note: not all locations require Power Cards (please see the Power Cards section).
Wurli Wurlinjang, Kintore Clinic (Katherine) and Groote Eylandt:
NTGPE leases two units - one in the town of Katherine and one at Alyangula township at Groote Eylandt.
These units basically contain the same facilities, and the same conditions apply as for the ‘Blue Houses’.. Also, purchase Telstra PhoneAway cards and front-loading washing powder before leaving Darwin, as you may not be able to obtain these items in the townships.
Groote Eylandt students stay in Mine workers quarters where all meals are provided.
You will not need to use Power Cards.

Katherine and Gove District Hospitals:
If your placement is at the Katherine District Hospital you will be accommodated there at the student accommodation. This accommodation may be on a share basis depending on circumstances of availability. Bed linen and towels are provided.
Lunches and dinners are provided. An accommodation bond of $200 is required before you access your room. This will be returned to you on appraisal of your room on departure
If your placement is at Gove Hospital you will be accommodated at the student accommodation quarters.

Miwatj and Endeavour Square Medical Centre (Gove):
Accommodation is very sparse in Gove and those students not staying at the Gove Hospital will most likely be accommodated by Dr Sue Smith (at Miwatj) or a local family.
Students are required to provide their own food. Cooking and boarding arrangements should be negotiated individually with the host family.

Batchelor:
Students placed at Batchelor Health Centre will usually be housed in a fully furnished and self-contained 2-bedroom cottage within Batchelor Institute. Bed linen will be provided but you will have to bring your own towels (Litchfield Park is close by and there are some great swimming holes there.)
You are responsible for providing your own meals. There is a store at the town of Batchelor but it has a limited range of items. You should consider taking some groceries with you on the coach.
Your unit has a telephone. Please purchase Telstra PhoneAway cards prior to going out to Batchelor. If we receive a phone bill from Batchelor Institute for the period of time that you are accommodated in the Cottage, then we will have to forward it on to you and a copy to your parent university.
You can read a little about the accommodation at Batchelor Institute at this web site:
www.batchelor.edu.au/file/webpage/study_accomodation.html
Jabiru / Timber Creek:
Accommodation is in the staff accommodation attached to each of these health centre's.
The accommodation at Jabiru is in one wing of the Jabiru Health Centre. The student room has it’s own television. The kitchenette, laundry and bathrooms are communal. Bed linen is provided. The Jabiru Health Centre is located on the grounds of the Jabiru Shopping Centre, which makes access to the Post Office, bank, Foodland and a Chinese take-away food outlet, very convenient.
Accommodation at Timber Creek is attached to the Timber Creek Health Clinic.
Bagot Community / Danila Dilba :
Both these placements are located in Darwin, but students will be accommodated at either Royal Darwin Hospital or Charles Darwin University residences, for the duration of the placement.
