Supervision & Support: |
Students are supported by a doctor
whether in a community, Congress, at hospital or a town GP clinic.
In some cases, if a student is in a remote community without a resident
GP, they will be supervised by remote area nurses (RAN's) and will
also work along side Aboriginal Health Workers (AHW's). The NTGPE
Medical Educator will provide clinical supervision. However, in
these cases a medical officer is always on-call to answer questions,
etc
Students maintain regular contact with NTGPE during their placement,
and if problems arise, students are encouraged to speak to their
medical mentor or other CA-RUSC staff. The CA RUSC Coordinator or
NTGPE Cultural educators is available to discuss culturally sensitive
issues and students will have the opportunity to join in telephone
tutorials with other students, doctors and NTGPE staff.
|
Weekly teleconferences
are held each Friday lunch-time between all students and the NTGPE
Medical Educator. This is an opportunity to discuss medical issues
that arise as well as to here the familiar voices of fellow students |
Accommodation - Alice
Springs |
As all students attending the
program are in Alice Springs for the Orientation week, we provide
share accommodation in our 3 bedroom units and a in a small friendly
backpackers when numbers are larger. The unit is fully set-up with
all furniture, linen and kitchen requirements, students buy there
own food to share and phone cards can be used to make calls from
the unit |
Accommodation - Communities |
Accommodation can vary from a
3 bedroom house to 2 bedroom duplex or demountable. The NTGPE has
6 student units and demountable's in Central Australian communities,
they are all fully fitted out and most have telephone connected,
they are in generally close to the clinic or the RAN's house. This
is particularly useful for call-outs and emergencies as well as
for social support
