| Description: |
We are a modem General Practice,
employing registered nursing staff; and using Medical Director for
patient notes, prescribing, ordering tests, and downloading pathology
and radiology results. We have Prac Soft for front desk management.
We do our own autoclave sterilising and carry out spirometry, ECO,
audiometry, electrocautery, liquid nitrogen treatments, and skin
allergy testing. We are AGPAL accredited. Our receptionists organise
a “focus of the month” for our waiting room notice board,
and we have regular staff meetings. |
Some of the procedures we perform
include removal of skin cancers (including those from the face,
nose, ears etc), insertion of IUCDs, insertion of Implanon, injection;
into joints, application of plaster, skin allergy desensitising,
etc. |
Our patient mix is as varied as
one could imagine, ranging from politicians and lawyers, to homeless
people who live in the “long grass” and town camps.
We see many travellers visiting Darwin by air or sea, from all over
the world, including in recent years, United Nations Workers, as
we are very close to Timor. We also offer travel advice, conduct
routine employment medical examinations, and see patients involved
in motor vehicle accidents and work related injuries. |
The clinic times are 8.30 am to
5pm and from 6pm to 10pm on weekdays, and from 9am to 10pm weekends
and public holidays. GP Registrars have the opportunity to see a
wide range of medical conditions, including Aboriginal health, tropical
diseases such as malaria and certain skin infections, and a high
incidence of skin cancers. As the surgery is very popular with patients,
an adequate patient load is assured for the registrar. |
|
All specialist consultants and
Allied Health workers in our area are entered on our Medical Director
address book data base, making it easy for new doctors to fit in
and refer new patients for further treatment, if required. |
There are four main doctors associated
with the practice, each a fellow of the Royal Australian College
of General Practitioners. They are Dr Barbara Allen, who has an
interest in Bowen Therapy, Dr Georgia Blunt, who is currently also
doing some work in Timor, Dr Tracy Johns, who has an interest in
mental health, and Dr David Welch, with the practice 20 years, who
has an interest in dermatology and teaching. |
Training Details: |
The practice has been teaching
GP Registrars for over 15 years. Current GP's are Dr Georgia Blunt,
Dr Tracy Johns and Dr David Welch. GP Registrars doing Basic and
Advanced terms have tutorials provided by Dr's Allen, Blunt, and
Welch, and also have access to local education sessions with NTGPE).
The practice can provide the registrar with an education plan to
suite their needs, and ensure that goals are met. GP registrars
are paid according to the current GP registrar award, with a generous
remuneration. The hours of employment are flexible, to suite the
individual registrar, but will include a mix of some weekend and
evening work
