Rural Remote Medical Education Online (RRMEO)

The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) has developed a robust online platform to support the educational needs of rural health practitioners. The platform enables education and training providers to improve access to information regarding validated training opportunities and online medical education resources. It enables users to communicate with and engage in interactive online learning activity with their peers and experts/teachers. The educational inventory and communication systems have been developed to facilitate the vertical integration of rural medical education across Student, Prevocational, Vocational, and Professional Development levels of activities.

Creating a Virtual Community of Rural Health Practitioners

RRMEO provides the infrastructure for the establishment of a virtual community of rural health practitioners and educational and professional organisations who provide relevant medical education.

Rural practitioners can interrogate the database of educational resources (educational inventory) and engage in online activity - case studies, modules, courses, communicate with their peers in clinical discussion forums, or seek information and register for workshops, conferences and clinical attachments. This educational activity is accredited towards the relevant ACRRM pathways and is cognizant of the requirements of the RACGP.

NT General Practice Education and RRMEO

From May 2007 NT General Practice Education became a subscriber to RRMEO and intends to utilise RRMEO as an online education and training portal. It is anticipated that Registrars enrolled with NTGPE will use RRMEO to participate in online learning and education, communicate with peers and support staff, and record their learning activities in the individual online learning planner.

From 2008 NTGPE aims to use RRMEO to record all educational and training activities for Registrars and intend to use the system for communication and the dissemination of information. All Registrars will receive training on RRMEO at orientation and be granted access via a user name and password.
