2016 Scholarships

There are three generously funded scholarships offered annually by NTGPE. All training GP registrars are encouraged to apply for scholarships or awards that are of interest. Submissions are to be sent to [email protected].

Ada Wilmadda Parry Aboriginal Health Scholarship

Background:

Ada was one of the first cultural educators at NTGPE and remains motivated by her family who struggled to communicate with doctors because of the cultural and language differences.

“I didn't take delivering cultural education lightly. I wanted to share with people who are interested in working in health about my culture and my way. I have a bit of advice for you; do the best you can, don't overwhelm yourself by trying to solve everything that comes through the door and most importantly look after yourself”.

The Ada Wilmadda Parry scholarship is awarded to an outstanding GP registrar who shows innovation and commitment to improving the health of Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.

Dr Debbie Stach – Registrar of the Year Award

Dr Debbie Stach was a GP registrar in the Northern Territory when she was tragically killed in a car accident in 2004. Debbie had just finished her training with NTGPE and was awaiting her FRACGP fellowship.

One of Debbie’s many gifts was her sense of humanity. Her peaceful manner and perceptive insight into the world around her allowed her to connect with and understand people from different backgrounds. This quality, combined with her desire to live life well, made her a great doctor and a wonderful healer.

The NTGPE registrar of the year is a stand out GP registrar who shows passion and commitment to the profession of general practice in the Northern Territory. This award is a tribute to Debbie and acknowledges her spirit and commitment to the NT, and will help other GP registrars continue in her footsteps.
