Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Public Health / Clinical Post
This new post offers a unique experience working within the Northern Territory’s Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services peak body AMSANT and Darwin’s largest Aboriginal Health Service, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS).
The registrar will be given the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings including in an outreach capacity with DDHS’s experienced GPs, Aboriginal health workers and nurses and to match this hands-on experience by working closely with AMSANT’s Public Health Officers to promote coordinated, evidence-based and best-practice clinical care for Aboriginal Health across the NT. The registrar will contribute to the on-going development of the AMSANT Public Health Network and will have the opportunity to be involved in public health policy development. This is an opportunity to join the growing group of GP Registrars getting involved with medical education. Registrar Medical Educators (RMEs) are Registrars employed part time (usually by their RTP, but could be local University) and given skills in medical education. The roles are diverse and include things like running teleconferences for John Flynn students, supporting PGPPP doctors, developing educational programs, involvement in orientations and workshops and all the various other skills an ME develops. There is a national committee you can join of other RMEs that provide support. NTGPE is keen to employ someone with an interest in joining our education team and providing them with training that will increase their skills and confidence in teaching. NTGPE will ensure they get professional development (eg. attendance to the National Australian Medical Educators Network conference), provide mentoring and help fund courses in further medical education. Employment could be from 0.2 to 0.5 FTE.
