Description:
The 60-bed area hospital provides a great deal of primary care and provides experience in GP anaesthetics, obstetrics andsurgery. The hospital is staffed predominantly by local general practitioners and by doctors who are gaining experience, oftenGP Registrars.
There are three well-equipped wards built in the late 1980s –obstetrics, medical/surgical, pediatrics as well ascasualty/outpatients and an operating theatre. The hospitalaccepts both urban and rural patients and refers some cases tothe Royal Darwin Hospital.Specialists from Darwin andsouthern states visit regularly; including surgery, gynaecology, pediatrics, ear nose and throat, orthopedics’, medical, etc. The Accident and Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours aday. Between the hours of 1030-2000hrs there is a MedicalOfficer in attendance. Outside these hours the Medical Officeris on call for acute illnesses and/or emergencies. Patients areseen on the basis of clinical urgency and therefore waiting timewill vary depending on the situation within the department atany given time
