PGPPP- Placement Reviews

Dr Jessica Reagh
Groote Eylandt / Arnhem Land – 2013
Flying to one of the most isolated of the major Arnhem Land communities, Dr Jessica Reagh dialled into her weekly teleconference approx. 4000m in the air. Somehow she managed to have reception the entire flight. Still participating in the group discussion as she landed in Numbulwar, Dr Reagh found herself surrounded by wilderness, beaches, and new experiences ready to be embraced.

Dr Payal Singh
Tennant Creek – 2013
I can’t believe it was three months ago when I first arrived in Tennant Creek. Coming from Melbourne and having never been in the Northern Territory before, I admit I was anxious, nervous and very apprehensive about coming to work in Tennant Creek. I came with little knowledge about working with Indigenous people and 20 kilograms excess luggage. Writing this debrief in my last week and I can say it has been one of the most challenging, interesting, eye opening, gut wrenching, frustrating and inspiring experiences of not only my short working career but of my life.

Dr Iyngaranathan Selvaratnam
Elcho Island – 2012
Dr Iyngaranathan Selvaratnam was looking to challenge himself both personally and professionally. As featured in his interview in the latest Going Places Magazine his placement at Elcho Island gave him just that… and much more.

Dr Thanujah Yogarajah
Groote Eylandt – June to August 2012
When I was planning my year abroad in Australia I never considered doing a GP rotation nor working in the Northern Territory. However when the opportunity presented itself it was too good to turn down. No matter how naive it may sound, working in the Australian Outback made me recall the Crocodile Dundee movies!

Dr Michael Ryan
Oenpelli – July to August 2011
“Oenpelli – oh that’s beautiful country!” Having arrived in Darwin for my three day orientation with NTGPE before heading out to my placement, this was the standard response that I got when I told people I was going out to Oenpelli, in West Arnhem Land. Coming from the beautiful green countyside of Ireland, I was dubious about how beautiful the landscape could be in comparison, but I am in no doubt as to why everyone told me this, because Oenpelli is just as they say.
