Top End RUSC Applications
Eligibility:
The applicant must also be able to fulfil the following criteria:

• be currently enrolled in an undergraduate medical degree. (Preference is given to medical students enrolled in Australian universities, due to the high demand for placements in the Top End.)
• complete and submit a NTGPE TE-RUSC Pre-Placement Application Form
• submit a recent passport photograph of him/herself
• able to produce a letter from the university stating that he or she is a student of good standing
• able to produce evidence of insurance and medical indemnity cover from the university
• have been immunized for the following: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, ADT, OPV and MMR (compulsory). Pneumococcal and influenza (recommended).
• must undertake the specific orientation and debriefing sessions provided by the training program pertinent to the region to which they will be placed
• agree to the conditions outlined in the NTGPE Guidelines for Medical Students Visiting Rural/Remote Communities, and submit a signed copy to NTGPE.

How to Apply:
1. Contact the Top End RUSC Placement Coordinator by emailing :[email protected]
2. A TE-RUSC Pre-Placement Application Form will be emailed to you. This is an electronic form and will need to be filled out by typing into the fields. It includes drop-down menus which will be lost if printed out first and then written on.
3. Have a look at the Top End placement locations to assist you in answering the ‘preferred locations for placement’ section on the application form. Not all of these placements will be available at the time of your application but it will give us an idea of the type of placement that interests you.
4. Read the instructions and application questions carefully. Complete the form.
5. Email the application form to [email protected]

6. Applications will be considered based on responses to application questions; availability of preferred locations for the requested dates; matching of students’ needs with that of the health centre. The application will be faxed to the supervising GP at the relevant health centre for approval. This process may take considerable time.
7. Once approval is received from the GP, the applicant will be notified of the dates and confirmed placement location.
8. The applicant will then be required to organize travel to and from Darwin, in order to arrive BEFORE the first Monday of the placement and to depart Darwin AFTER business hours on the last Friday of the placement.

9. Successful applicants must submit the following documents to NTGPE one month before the placement commences:
• Recent passport sized photograph
• Letter from parent University stating that the applicant is currently a student of good standing
• Letter from parent University outlining insurance cover and medical indemnity cover for the duration period of the placement
• Bank account details to enable reimbursements
• Signed NTGPE Guidelines for Medical Students Visiting Top End Remote Communities
10. Furthermore the applicant may be required to read and sign:
• NT Clinical School Accommodation Policy
• NTGPE Accommodation Bond Agreement.
