Meeting Aims:
  • To meet as a group with focus on education in the general practice and community setting.
  • Update on the last year activity.
  • Support processes for the maintenance of GP supervisor involvement in the education programs - SLO position etc
  • Decide on a process to improve support of education for GP registrars, (junior doctors) and medical students.
  • Professional development of GPs in education.
  • Discuss GPR placements for 2004.

The above aims were addressed in the program
Outcomes:
  • Successful gathering for lively discussion about the directions for GP training, including the importance of registrar procedural training opportunities and the association of quality education with future workforce and recruitment.
  • Agreement to pursue regular formative assessment in the GP registrar program and group discussion and feedback on some useful tools for this (see attached summary).
  • Development of more structured feedback mechanisms between all groups - learners, supervisors, and NTGPE.
  • Use of the GP supervisor parameters.
  • Support for a regional pilot supervision program for GP registrars in Gove - details to be developed on the discussion from the meeting.
  • Revision of the principles of learning and teaching within the GP context.
  • Focus on the importance of self-care in general practice.
  • Establishment of the website for dissemination of resources and information
Actions:
  • Structure feedback process for implementation asap.
  • Structure the formative feedback tools and process for implementation in 2004.
  • Plan for pilot in Gove.
  • Outline process for more structure to ECT visit as a mechanism to support feedback and education in the practice.
