The Facilities are quite basic. The store sells a reasonable range
of different tinned and packaged foods with a limited supply of
fresh vegetables. A delivery arrives every Tuesday and this is the
best time to buy fresh veggies and milk. The food is not cheap but
affordable for most packaged goods. Kalkarindji Meat Supplies provide
beef and occasionally other meat at cheap prices and with home delivery.
Food can also be ordered from Katherine Woolworth's on (08) 89 723
055. This is delivered on Tuesdays.
Take-away meals are available at the shop. The club is open 5 nights
a week from 5 to 8pm and Saturdays from 1 to 5pm. They have meals
most nights, however the club can be a bit rough particularly on
weekends and pay night and often closes if there is trouble in town
or for cultural reasons.
Kalkarindji is an excellent spot for carrying out an elective in
remote and Aboriginal health. The clinic is well run with supportive
staff and there is a great variety of medical and social problems
you are likely to encounter. The local landscape is beautiful and
there are swimming holes within walking distance from the town.
There may also be opportunities to visit other communities and cattle
stations |
