Central Australian Aboriginal
Congress (CAAC, or Congress) is the largest community controlled
health service in the NT. It services the Alice Springs Aboriginal
population and outlying outstations within 100kms of Alice Springs.
Congress is the second oldest community controlled health service
in the country and was established in 1973 by local Aboriginal people
to provide a culturally appropriate health service for Aboriginal
people. Congress provides a comprehensive primary health care service,
inclusive of health promotion programs, research and associated
allied health services. Congress also manages a child care centre,
Alukura (an Aboriginal birthing and women's health centre), a dental
clinic, counselling services, a family support program, a men's health
program, welfare and transport services.
