Welcome to the program
Congratulations, you’re now a part of the NTGPE family. As you're aware, NTGPE is contracted by the Australian Government to deliver the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program.
The first thing to get your head around is how the training program is designed.
There are three players in GP training nationally:
- Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) is the government body that funds and administers the program. There are procedures and requirements set by AGPT.
- The colleges (RACGP and ACRRM) set the curriculum and vocational training standards and run the exams. The colleges have their own set of requirements and procedures too.
- Regional training organisations (RTOs) manage the day to day running of the program making sure mandatory requirements from AGPT and the colleges are met. The RTO also manages the placements for the GP registrars throughout their training. The RTO will also have its own set of requirements and procedures.
