After many months of development, NTGPE launched its plan for Reconciliation, a comprehensive and functional action plan to incorporate Indigenous reconciliation into all facets of its business operations.
Approximately 60 people attended the launch event, which opened with Rocky Lee playing didgeridoo, followed by the energetic Aboriginal traditional dancers, One Mob from Belyuen, and Welcome to Country performed by NTGPE Senior Cultural Educator Richard Fejo, a Larrakia traditional owner. With the very entertaining Jason De Santis as emcee, the launch included speeches from NTGPE CEO, Dr Brett Dale on the aims of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Sharon Wallace, Indigenous Health Project Officer from Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance NT (AMSANT) on their involvement with the development of NTGPE’s RAP and what the increased collaboration with NTGPE meant in terms of improved health for Indigenous peoples.
Band members from Simon and the GPettes, the only all GP band in Australia (all with NTGPE connections) concluded the event with some fine entertainment whilst attendees mingled and enjoyed tasty bush tucker cuisine from Karen Sheldon Catering, who train unemployed Indigenous people in hospitality and connect them to jobs.
The official RAP document launched on the day is a testament of NTGPE’s reconciliation achievements to date and a written commitment to continued reconciliation action and initiatives for the future.
