| Small
Group Learning (SGL)) |
- Groups will convene in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine and
Nhulunbuy and perhaps a separate small group of remote registrars
if there are enough in any one term or year.
- Each small group will meet at least 10 times per year for 3
hours each meeting.
- Each small group will have a Medical Educator to facilitate
the process.
- The first meeting of the year will be to organize a draft plan
for the year’s topics/events.
- Most group meetings will involve a guest speaker.
- The group will convene before the guest speaker arrives to generate
suitable questions for the speaker, at least one question per
registrar.
- Group members will ideally have considered the topic beforehand
and may have done some pre reading.
- Guest speakers will usually not be expected to deliver a pre
prepared talk, but be available to answer the group’s questions.
- After each meeting members will be expected to fill out an on-line
feedback form (similar to the one being used now for teleconferences).
This feedback form is a mandatory requirement of NTGPE to prove
that registrars have completed this aspect of training.
- Registrars should also document their attendance in their own
portfolio on the page provided.
- All registrars in General Practice clinical terms including
Subsequent term registrars will be expected to attend the majority
of small group sessions.

Self directed learning (SDL) |
- On alternate fortnights registrars will be expected to spend
3 hours pursuing self directed learning.
- A Medical Educator will be available to assist for guidance
and facilitation if required.
- Registrars may choose to use this time to study alone or in
groups.
- Self directed learning also needs to be documented in their
portfolios for satisfactory completion of training.
- NTGPE will create a link within its website to a resource page
for Small group and Self directed learning which will evolve as
future resources become available.
