GP Registrar Placement Feedback
An initiative of the Registrar Liaison Officers this feedback is provided by GP Registrars who have recently completed a placement.
As part of the feedback process information sent is reviewed by Medical Educators and GP Trainers. Comments regarding the placement are the opinion of the GP Registrar not NTGPE.

Community / Town:
Central Darwin
Placement Location:
Danila Dilba Health Service
Placement Dates:
Jan-July 2004 and Feb-Jan 2005/2006
Local Attractions:
Fishing, restaurants, entertainment, and national parks a few hours drive away...
Accommodation / relocation arrangements:
Self-accommodation. Houses and apartments available all over Darwin. These are
Not cheap
Hours actually worked:
The clinic is only open 0800-4.30 Monday to Friday
After hours & oncall:
About an hours overtime each day is standard.
Pay Rate:
Currently negotiating new EBA. Has been very poor in the past but things are
Looking more positive
Supervision:
Practice is quite good at providing formal teaching time. Often will have a
Different supervisor on various days as FRACGPs are all part time.
Patient Demographics / Clinic Special Interests:
Aboriginal patients with some lower socioeconomic non-Indigenous patients.
Women’s clinic, men’s clinic, child health clinic, and chronic disease clinics all
Exist. Also opportunities to be involved in public health projects
Suitability:
The clinic is not great for proceduralists. A degree of flexibility is required
In order to deal with organizational difficulties. As clinic is community
Controlled, the decision-making processes can frustrate some registrars. Great
Experience in chronic disease, mental health, and women's health.
