GP Registrar Placement Feedback
An initiative of the Registrar Liaison Officers this feedback is provided by GP Registrars who have recently completed a placement.
As part of the feedback process information sent is reviewed by Medical Educators and GP Trainers. Comments regarding the placement are the opinion of the GP Registrar not NTGPE.

Local Attractions:
Awesome wet season storms, colourful markets, beautiful beaches, lots of
sporting, musical and Arts opportunities...
Accommodation / relocation arrangements:
Northern Suburbs, preferably by the beach. No accommodation subsidy, not sure
about relocation arrangements (I was already here)
Hours actually worked:
Clinic open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.36pm with a one hour lunch break. Clinic
Closed on Wednesday afternoon for 'staff development' purposes. Plenty of
options for part-time work/varied days and hours.
After hours & oncall:
None
Pay Rate:
Has apparently recently hugely increased - rumours are that registrars are
earning $120 000 per annum. Was just above award rate when I worked there.
Supervision:
Patchy - clinic frequently chaotic and understaffed, supervisor/senior doctor
Not always on roster day-to-day, but the clinic staff were committed to teaching
And recognised its importance.
Patient Demographics / Clinic Special Interests:
Aboriginal Health, particularly chronic diseases, with subspecialty areas such
As the "women's clinic", "men's clinic", "children's clinic", "mobile team" etc
Suitability:
People who are willing to be flexible and creative, independent and enjoy
Working as part of a large team. Obviously, an interest in Aboriginal health and
Other issues are imperative.
