| | A Consortium is forming to govern GPERU and provide general practice
education in the Northern Territory
The Board of GPERU will broaden the focus of the unit to look at general practice education
from high school, through undergraduate, early hospital years, post-graduate
education and continuing professional development. The Board will be made up of
representatives of a range of key institutions and stakeholders:
The new structure be:
- A Board of Governance
consisting of nominees of the organisations and groups above and developing
policy and direction
- An Advisory Group which meets by teleconference each year and
elects a chair who becomes a member of the board. The Advisory Group
receives all the minutes of the Board and offers advice to the Board through
the elected Chair.
- A standing committee of the Board called the NT General Practice Regional Faculty,
convened by the ACRRM and RACGP members of the Board and overseeing
accreditation of teaching practices, local adaptation and implementation of
curricula and standards, appeals by registrars etc.
- An Operational Group consisting of the staff of GPERU, General
Practice Supervisors and Educators, representatives of the learners and
other people.
Key Documents:
- The expression of interest
as submitted to GPETL
- Sam Heard has produced a foundation paper outlining the development of the new joint General
Practice Education and Research Unit and the basis for educational
initiatives.
- Minutes of the Board, the Faculty, the Advisory Group and the Operational
Group will be available in the future.
